Mariel Riggins Thompson, age 91, of Clarksville, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Gateway Medical Center.
A celebration of life service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel, with Pastor Carolyn Nobling officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant UMC Cemetery . Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born July 4, 1919 in Montgomery County and was preceded in death by her parents, James Riggins, Mary Clyde Haynes Riggins, and her brother J. Stanley Riggins.
She was a lifetime member of Mount Pleasant UMC. During her many years at Mt. Pleasant she served in many capacities and dedicated her life to serving God, and Church Family.
She resided in the Dotsonville community on the same property her Father purchased when she was 4 years old. She was a Wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend to many. She loved Gardening, Raking leaves, and all facets of Homemaking.
Her various activities and Joys included 50 plus years in the Sunnyview Home Demonstration Club (FCE). Another of her favorite organizations was the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Women, where she happily used her talents for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Paul L. Thompson, daughter, Mary (Nelson) Moore, son, James (Faye) Wilyard, grandson, Billy (Dawn) Wilyard, granddaughter, Cheryl Wilyard (Patrick) Wallace, great grandsons, William A. Wilyard, Brandon Wallace, and great granddaughter, Taylor Wallace.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Shelby, Brian Shelby, Bobby Mann, J. R. Tate, Harold Taylor, and Sonny Caruthers. Honorary Pallbearers are Mt. Pleasant congregation.
