Marcelite Farris Welker, 86, of Clarksville, TN died Friday August 8, 2008 at Gateway Medical Center. The Memorial Service will be held 10am Wednesday August 13, 2008 at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dorothy Hartzog officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday at McReynolds-Nave and Larson Funeral Home. She was born June 27, 1922, in Hampton, Kentucky, daughter of the late Frank G. Farris and Mary Blakeley Farris. She was a widow of John William Welker. Mrs. Welker taught English 29 years at Clarksville High School and introduced the College Board Advanced Placement Program teaching the literature classes. The Program in various subject areas is still taught in the Clarksville Montgomery County high schools. Mrs. Welker was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Clarksville Montgomery County Retired Teachers Association, the Captain William Edmiston Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter, the Clarksville Amateur Garden Club, Elegante Club, Austin Peay State University Wivesâ Book Club and Luncheon Club and Friends of the Library. She is survived by two children: John Welker, Clarksville, and Gayle Farris, Boston, Massachusetts, and three grandchildren, Abigail Friedland, San Francisco, California, Zachary Friedland, New York, New York, and Blake Welker, Clarksville.
