MAJ (Ret.) Richard Twombly

Maj. (Ret.) Richard Francis Twombly, age 76 of Woodlawn, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with Full Military Honors.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday.
Richard was born on September 3, 1938 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the son of the late LT Col (Ret.) Bernard B. Twombly and Hilma S. Jackson Twombly. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert Twombly.
Richard was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church and a member of the Boston Masonic Lodge (Mystic Valley Lodge). He was a Vietnam Veteran who retired after 20 years as a Major in the U.S. Army. Richard was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster).He loved to farm and was the Manager and President of Small Car Enterprise.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen M. Luce Twombly; sons, Thomas Richard (Tina) Twombly and John Edward (Samantha) Twombly; daughter, Marie Louise Twombly; brothers, Bernard B. Twombly II and Donald Twombly; grandchildren, Skylar James Twombly and Chase Twombly.
Military will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chaplain’s Fund at Fort Campbell.
