Lysle Virginia Kief Lewis, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Signature Healthcare of Erin.
Lysle was born, August 8, 1924 in Pekin, IL, daughter of the late, Ernest L. and Myrtle Ashley Kief. She was married December 30, 1945 to Charles Joseph Lewis, WWII hero, who survived 3 ½ years as POW in Japan, ad a civic Leader. He died November 17th, 1983.

Lewis of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Randy Trainor, Erin, TN; Tracy Renee Trainor Hardin of New Albany, IN; Michael Charles Lewis of Harvard University; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Gabriell Trainor, Josiah, Caleb and Samuel Hardin; great-great-grandchildren, Arissa and Cambria Trainor; brother, Robert W. Kief, deceased.
Lysle was a native of Pekin, IL, presented solo artist’s recital on Piano at age of 12. She graduated from Pekin High School, 1942. Was a certified shorthand reporter.
Lysle was Secretary for the War Ratio Board 1942-1945; court secretary for Tazewell County for 18 years, retiring in 1979.
Mrs. Lewis was formerly a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pekin; formerly National Secretaries Assn., Marquette Chapter; American Legion Auxiliary 44, Pekin; Past Presidents of Parley, AM. Legion Aux., Pekin; Presbyterian Church of Palms, Sarasota, FL; Sarasota Women’s Republican Club of Siesta Key; Life member American Ex-Prisoners of War; Chaplain & Secretary, Tri-County Ex-POW’s; Life Assoc. member American Defenders of Bataan& Corregidor.
Her activities included: Deacon, Presbyterian Church of Palms; President, Palm Friends of Church Palms; Author of book “Courage Personified” depicting life of her husband, and “Sandy, Death March Survivor”, documenting atrocities of POW life of Owen Sandmeyer. Performing member of Sea Scribes/National Secretaries Assn “Swimming Secretaries” water ballet group 5 years. Organist.
