Catherin Louise Buckner Cothron, 78, passed away March 19, 2014 in Iowa City, IA. She was born in Cumberland Furnace, TN, to the late Eldon Ezekiel and Ruth Anna Bumpus Buckner. She was preceded in death by brothers William T. Buckner and Eldon E. Buckner, Jr.
Louise graduated from Clarksville High School and Austin Peay State University, where she studied library science, education, and art. She met her lifelong love, Jack Cothron, in chemistry class at Austin Peay, and subsequently married him. They were married for almost 59 years and had three daughters, Jane, Judy, and Anna.
Louise worked as a school librarian and art teacher.
She was an accomplished artist, a gardener, an avid quilter and a fabulous baker. She won numerous ribbons and awards at the Iowa State Fair for her creative recipes. As a member of the Iowa Arts Council, she worked on many art contests and art displays. She planted flower gardens everywhere she travelled and especially enjoyed roses.
Louise was a member of the Afton, IA United Methodist Church. She was a certified lay speaker of the United Methodist Church in both Missouri and Iowa. She worked on mission projects for her church.
Louise is survived by her devoted husband, Jack Cothron, three daughters, Jane Cothron (Laura Mayer)(South Beach, OR), Judy Cothron Funk (Coatsville, MO), Anna Cothron and husband Keith Norman (Rosholt, WI), her sisters Dorothy Boyer (Clarksville, TN) and Nancy Poole (Adams, TN), and brother, Joe T. Buckner (Rockton, IL), four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will be missed by family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at McReynolds-Nave-Larson Funeral Home on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 3:00 pm., with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 pm., prior to the service. The Reverend Timothy Kidwell, her nephew, will officiate. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery.
