Linda Knox

February 24, 1951 — March 7, 2025

Clarksville

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Linda Lee Norton Knox, who left us peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 74. Linda was born on February 24, 1951, in Batavia, NY, to the late Mildred and Praton Norton, and she lived a life filled with music, love, and an unwavering “hippie” free spirit. In her early years, she moved to Australia, where she spent five years before returning to Batavia. Later in life, she relocated to Clarksville, TN, where she enjoyed retirement surrounded by family.

A 1969 graduate of Batavia High School, Linda later earned a degree in Business Administration from Genesee Community College. She dedicated many years to Batavia Bus Service (RGRTA) as a Regional Manager, retiring in 2013.

Linda’s love of music was legendary—whether it was The Beatles or Crosby, Stills & Nash (her favorite), music was the soundtrack of her life. Whenever Suite: Judy Blue Eyes played, she’d roll down the car windows, crank up the volume, and sing her heart out. The first song she ever learned to sing, Your Cheatin’ Heart by Hank Williams Sr., was a childhood favorite that her father would play for her on an old 78 record.

Beyond her passion for music, Linda was deeply involved in the arts and her community. She was a proud member of Sweet Adelines and supported GoArt in Batavia, NY, as well as ARC of Genesee County (now Arc GLOW). She believed in creativity, self-expression, and embracing life with an open heart. She had a special fondness for koala bears, collecting memorabilia and sharing her love for them with family and friends. A self-proclaimed hippie, she had a deep love for peace signs and the ideals they represented—love, kindness, and harmony.

Linda was preceded in death by her sons, Garth Knox and Praton Knox, as well as her beloved grandparents, Robert Lee Norton and Velma Barner Norton of Kenton, TN, with whom she shared a special bond. She is survived by her son, Shane Borton; daughter-in-law, Anna Knox; brother, Robert Lee Norton; niece, Krista Lee Norton; and grand-nephew, Devon Lee Foglesong.

Linda’s light and laughter will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. To honor her spirit, roll down the car windows, crank up the music, and sing your heart out just as she loved to do.
