Lester Hawkins Biggs, age 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 3, 2021 in Columbus, Ohio while in hospice care. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home in Clarksville, Tennessee with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the funeral home.
Lester entered this life on June 8, 1929 in Bear Springs, Tennessee, the fifth of six children born to James Cater Biggs and Donie Meadows Biggs. He married Evelyn Marie Goodwin on April 9, 1954 in Erin, Tennessee and they moved to Clarksville soon afterward. He was a devoted husband, father, and neighbor, made his living as a skilled carpenter, and was a longtime member of Hilldale Baptist Church in Clarksville. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Columbus, Ohio in late 2015 soon after the death of his wife Evelyn, to be near his son Scott and daughter-in-law Becky.
Lester was preceded in death by parents Cater and Donie Biggs, brother Ira Biggs, and sisters Mattie Mae Boardman, Myrtle Biggs, and Lois Barbee. Survivors include his son Scott Biggs (Becky) of Columbus, Ohio; sister Vicky Cherry of Springfield, Tennessee, sisters-in-law Pat Mallory (Bob) of Stewart, Tennessee and Shirlee Carter (Jerry) of Navarre, Florida, several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Doctors West Hospital and Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio for their care of Lester during his recent illness, Tidd Family Funeral Home in Hilliard, Ohio for their assistance in early funeral arrangements, and the staff of McReynolds-Nave & Larson in Clarksville.
