Leroy Dowdy

Leroy Dowdy was born in Cumberland City, TN on October 30, 1950 to the late V.R. Thomas and Clara B. Dowdy Skelton.  Leroy departed this life peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Ascension St. Thomas in Nashville, TN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2023 at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home with Rev. Faye Sanders officiating.  Burial will follow in Salem Chapel Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service Monday afternoon at the funeral home.

During his early years, Leroy joined the Job Corp, was employed by Vulcan Materials and Frosty Mourn in Clarksville, TN, and Glen Brake’s Recycling in Erin, TN.  Leroy loved watching old westerns, gardening, barbecuing, helping others, and especially spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved and cherished.  He was a loving brother, devoted father, grandfather and uncle.  He lived a life full of good times surrounded by good friends.  The family circle is broken again, but we thank God for his blessing and for the time we shared with Leroy and the wonderful memories he left for us to cherish.

Leroy was preceded in death by both of his parents, V.R. Thomas, and Clara B. Dowdy Skelton; brother, James E. Skelton; and sister, Wanda F. Skelton.  Leroy leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Angie Ladd; son Brandon Ladd: four grandchildren, Serenity Ladd, Arieona Ladd, Caylee Ladd, Drax Ladd; his loving, devoted sisters, Mary (Rodney) Turner, Dora (Gary) Kirtland, both of Clarksville, TN, Delphia Thomas Barber of Erin, TN, and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and a host of cousins; special friends, Robert “Bugman” Kizer, Glen Brake, G.E. Clark, Mike Dunlap, and numerous others.
