Effie “Lee” (McMillan) Self, age 82, of Pace, Florida passed away on November 9, 2020 in Pensacola, Florida after a brief illness. Lee was born in Erin, Tennessee and was the oldest of five girls born to the late James and Louise McMillan. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son Franklin Glen Self and sister Wilma “Sue” Kalmar.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years Woodrow (Woody) Self, daughter Marlene Nelson and husband Jeff of Pace, Florida; son Jeffrey Self and wife Sarah of St. Louis, Missouri; her grandson Christopher Nelson; and granddaughters Ashley & Madison Humme; sisters Barbara Rushing of Dover, Tennessee; Shirley McMillan of Spiro, Oklahoma; Linda Wadkins and husband Don of Jacksonville, Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lee and Woody raised their family in Clarksville, Tennessee and she enjoyed many activities there with her children. Her home was the gathering place for all the neighborhood children to play. She always had an extra place at her table for all who wanted to visit. After her children were older, she and her husband decided to move to Indian Mound, Tennessee to enjoy the country life on their farm. Lee retired from Jostens Yearbook Company where she worked for many years and missed all of her coworkers and friends after her retirement. She then joined her husband on the road in his career as a truck driver. In 2002, they retired to Florida to live closer to her daughter. There she joined the Pace Chapter of TOPS and a local sewing group and always enjoyed attending her meetings with all the ladies.
Visitation will be held at Nave Funeral Home in Erin, Tennessee on Saturday, November 21st, 2020 between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Graveside services will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the McMillan Family Cemetery in Erin.
