Lawrence was born on March 12, 1944, the son of the late Boyd Stepp and Doris Stepp. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Stepp.
He was a Lutheran and worked as a commercial roofer.
He is survived by his sons, Tony Stepp, Scott Stepp, and Johnny Stepp; brother, Charles Stepp; sisters, Ladonna Loving and Pat Patterson; 8 grandchildren.
