Katie Black

December 31, 1912 — April 5, 2015

Katie Wadell (Hayes) Black, age 102 of Clarksville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 5, 2015.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Brooks, Rev. Jim Hefley, and Rev. Robert Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow at Louise United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 12 noon until the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Katie was born on December 31, 1912 in Montgomery County, the daughter of the late James Vincent Hayes and Maggie Lena Davis Hayes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William D. “Monk” Black; siblings, James Henry Hayes, Hattie Castleberry, Corrilla Huggins, Elizabeth Akin, and Lula Leftwich; grandchildren, William Christopher and Shane Colin Black.
She worked in a shirt factory and owned Black’s Grocery with her husband for over 30 years in Montgomery County. Katie was a lifelong member of Louise United Methodist Church and was an Eastern Star. She was a book keeper for her family’s business, a dedicated Sunday school teacher, a dedicated Vacation Bible School Teacher, and a dedicated member of the church choir for 60 years.
She is survived by her son, Donald A. Black; granddaughters, Beth Michelle Black and Robin Leigh Black; great-granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Black.
Pallbearers will be Randy Wynn, Bobby Davis, Jerry Castleberry, Teddy Castleberry, Mark Castleberry, Donnie Akin, and Jerry Akin.
If you desire, memorials may be made to the Louise United Methodist Church Cemetery in the care of Joann Chadwick at 350 Highway 13 Cunningham, TN 37052.
