June Fay Uffelman Nemethy died December 31, 2011 at her home. She was born on Wells Creek in Houston County on June 9, 1926 to William Martin and Emma Wright Uffelman. She is preceded in death by her husband Colonel Frank J. Nemethy, brothers, O. S. and Marion Turner, sister Jeannette and by her niece Heather Uffelman. Funeral service will be 2pm Monday at Nave Funeral Home Chapel in Erin,Tn.with Father Bruce McMillan officiating. Visitation will be from 12pm until service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Alsobrooks Cemetery.
June attended Camp Ground School and Yellow Creek High School. During WWII she worked as a telephone operator for South Central Bell, retiring 20 years later. In 1965 she married Col. Frank J. Nemethy, a career army officer. They were stationed at the Pentagon, ROTC, University of Delaware and Ft. Campbell. June was active in Officer’s Wives Clubs.
Upon retirement from the military Frank and June bought a farm in Herndon, Kentucky where she lived until 2009. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers, The Grange of Christian County, volunteered for the Salvation Army, worked for the Christian County Election Commission, Republican Women’s Club and later the Democratic Party.
June attended Camp Ground Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Hebron United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters Terri Lynne and Tricia Nemethy, sister-in-laws, Lois Uffelman and Helen Uffelman, and nieces and nephews, Keith Uffelman, Moleise Uffelman Hemingway, Dr. Minoa Uffelman, Bambi Uffelman, Maria Uffelman, Natalie Uffelman, and Lance Uffelman,. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews and dear friend Brenda Outlaw and Wanda Gray.
