June Hogan Dorman

December 31, 1969 — October 21, 1936

June L. Hogan Dorman, 86, unexpectedly passed away quietly at her residence in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a daughter of Martin L. Hogan, Richmond, VA and Lillian (Gugelman) Hogan, Winchester, TN. June was born in 1936 in Chattanooga, TN, and grew up in Winchester, Tennessee.

She graduated from Franklin County High School. After graduation she moved to Nashville, where she attended Watkins Institute, the University of Tennessee-Nashville, and Owen Graduate School of Management. Mrs. Dorman was employed by Vanderbilt University, where she became private secretary to Chancellor Alexander Heard, and served other chancellors over the years.

For 15 years she enjoyed being a photographer of artifacts for publication by the Tennessee Historical Society, the Tennessee State Museum, the Smithsonian, and Little-Brown Publishers, among others. For many years she pursued historical and genealogical research and served as the Registrar of the Prudence Hall Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of American Colonists (NSDAC), and held many local, state, and national offices in the NSDAC as well.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Thomas M. Dorman (who was the third generation of his family in law enforcement in Nashville), her sister Carol (Hogan) Skinner and her niece Merrie Carol (Skinner) Land.

She is survived by her Aunt Dr. Mai (Hogan) Kelton, Nashville; nephews Stanley Skinner, Jr., Kingsport, TN and Lane Skinner of FL, great nephew Dr. Zach Skinner, Blountville, TN, nephew-in-law Kenneth Land, Altoona, FL; and numerous cousins, and friends.

Family visitation will be at 10am Thursday, 26 Oct 2023 at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home, 221 25th Avenue North, Nashville. A celebration of her life will follow at 11am with her DAC Chaplain Mrs. Ann Wolfe and Eulogists Mrs. Margaret Sides and lifelong friend, Mrs. Betty Eckert officiating.

Interment will be on Friday, next to her husband in the Middle Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville. There will be no graveside service.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Stanley Skinner, Jr, Kenneth Land, John Kelton, Bobby Yingling, Cleo Hogan, Joe Eckert, Dr. Zach Skinner, Dr. Ralph Barr, John Kelton, and Zane Hogan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walden's Puddle Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, P.O. Box 641, Joelton, TN 37080-0641. Walden's is the only wildlife rehabilitation and education center in Middle Tennessee.
