June Abernathy, age 88, of Clarksville, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, surrounded by her loving family.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Marcoulier and Rev. Dr. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at Salem United Methodist Church.
June was born on March 20, 1926 in Montgomery County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Laurin and Mary Edmondson. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Glenn Abernathy. June was a retired Guidance Counselor with Montgomery Central High School and also devoted much of her free time to Urban Ministries, where she was a volunteer for over 20 years, had a servant's heart for missions, and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She was a faithful member of the church family at Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Mike Abernathy and his wife; daughter, Julie Nicholson; grandchildren, Sonya Snow, Angelyn Nicholson, Amy Miller, Adam Nicholson, and Keegan Riley; 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brian Bryant, Mike Bryant, Ted Elsner, Wade Morgan, Brad Morris, Joel Morris, Phillip Morris, and Adam Nicholson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Abernathy, Freddy Abernathy, Johnny Abernathy, Tommy Bagwell, John Burgess, John Davidson, Austin Edmondson, Ted Johnson, and Henry Penna.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 2269 Seven Mile Ferry Rd., Clarksville, TN 37040.
