Judith Ann Lowe’s life was marked by a legacy of learning and love. She grew up with four brothers in St Cloud, MN. Speaking of them with affection, she was always full of lively stories and wore her “survival” as the only girl like a badge of honor. One of her fondest memories from her early life was of her music teacher, Miss Marvel, who had one leg and inspired Judy to keep music in the forefront of her life.
Judy loved her southern husband from the time she met him while working at Glacier Park. She, a waitress and he, a busdriver, dated over three summers that led to a lifetime together. During their courtship she completed a teaching degree at St. Cloud State College while her husband Reg finished medical school. After marriage, they moved to Jackson, Mississippi where she taught 5th grade and pioneered a middle school chorus before heading to Germany for two years. Overseas, Judy continued to educate by working with soldiers. Upon their return, Judy and Reg started a family.
As a mother, Judy poured out love for her daughters through tender lullabies, bowls of ice cream after school, and unconditional support in all endeavors. Later, this same nurturing attention was given to her five grandchildren. To them she became “Anna”. Spending time at “AnnaPapa’s” was always a delight.
Judy’s passion for learning continued when she received an MA and EdS in psychology from Austin Peay State University. Many students and families were blessed by her drive to help struggling students find answers and resources for success.
Judy’s love for her community led her to much volunteer work. Upon moving to Clarksville, she chaired membership drives for Community Concerts. At First Presbyterian Church she accompanied the children’s choir, taught Sunday School, served as an elder, chaired the Missions Committee, and sold Free Trade coffee and chocolates. For years, Judy created interactive music programs at the Montgomery County Nursing Home after the passing of her mother there. It was a joy to see the residents light up when she led them in special songs from their pasts.
Later in life, Judy expressed her elegance through ballroom dancing with her handsome partner Reg. They swirled gracefully around the dance floor just as they had swirled gracefully through 67 years of marriage.
Among the many fond memories shared after Judy’s passing, one of our favorites is “She was the most kind and loving woman that I have probably ever known”. All who knew and loved her now celebrate the imprint she has made on our lives.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, John Willcox, Jerry Willcox, Geoffrey Willcox, and Sammy Willcox.
Survivors include her loving husband, Dr. Reginald Shaw Lowe, Jr.; daughters, Dr. Jennifer Lowe Ellis, and Janet Carson Haase; grandchildren, Sarah Ellis, Daniel Ellis, Will Haase, Alex Haase, and Katie Syner, and her husband, Cliff Syner IV.
Special thanks to her caregivers: Mina Eisenhofer, Alyssa O’Conner and Sarah Whipple from First Light and Tahitian Young from Comfort Keepers, and to the staff from Gentiva Hospice.
