Judge Joseph Hollister Spencer, 90, Tennessee Ridge, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Skyline Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2pm Friday at Erin Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Moody officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 8pm Thursday at the funeral home and from 9am until the time of service Friday at Erin Baptist Church. Nave Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Judge Spencer was born November 26, 1917 in Houston County, Tn., son of the late Judge J.M. Spencer and Kate Hollister Spencer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Janet Hagler Spencer, two brothers James Marvin Spencer, Dr.William Spencer, and two sisters Betty Lou Rye and Ann Rye. He was a Circuit Judge for many years, a member of Erin Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He served as a Tennessee State Legislator and in the Senate, a Delegate to the Tennessee Continental Convention, Vice President of Erin Bank and Trust. Survivors include two daughters Janis ( Jerry ) Hamlin, Jonet Williams, both of Ashland City, Tn., one brother Thomas Douglas Spencer of Erin, Tn., and one sister Hattie Sue Spencer of Erin, Tn., four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.
