JT Austin, age 72 of Clarksville, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at his residence.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 noon until the hour of service on Sunday at the funeral home.
JT Austin completed his training as a Master Barber at the age of 16. He worked as a Master Barber with his father on Fort Campbell Army Base and continued his career at Bryant’s Barber Shop on Greenwood Avenue.
In the 1960s JT opened serveral beauty shops in the city of Clarksville. In 1972 he founded Austins Beauty College, which continues to operate and train stylist in the Clarksville area today.
JT never met a stranger. He was always looking to help those in need. He was always looking to lift peoples spirits and anyone who met him was sure to hear a good joke.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Austin and Ruby Majors Austin and his son, Gregory Thomas Guthrie.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Rye Austin; daughters, Angie Filback, Lorie (Donald) Gibbs, and Chandra Guthrie; brother, Marvin (Virginia) Austin; grandchildren, Monte (Nicole) Holt, Tiffany (Adam)Moore, Kari Lewis, Carly Filback, Jessalyn Lewis, Alexis Guthrie, Yzabela Guthrie, and Sofia Guthrie; great-grandchildren, Liam Holt and AniMarie Moore.
