Joyce Ann Shelby Major, 73, of Clarksville, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Gateway Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Hilldale Church of Christ with Steve Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel and from 2 p.m. until the hour of service, Saturday at the church. Mrs. Major was born June 8, 1937 in Montgomery County and was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Sybel Minniehan Shelby; son, Mark Edwin Major; and brother James Shelby. Mrs. Major was a homemaker and a longtime member of Hilldale Church of Christ. She was a former substitute teacher for Montgomery County Schools and Alumni of Austin Peay State University. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James L. Major III, Clarksville; sons, Michael A. Major, Clarksville, James (Gail) Major IV, Joelton; and grandson, Michael (Ashley) Major Jr.; and four greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers will be Michael Major, Ricky Shelby, Brian Shelby, Jimmy Powell, Jackie Waynick and Darol Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders of Hilldale Church of Christ.
