Joseph Elwyn Pitts, Sr., age 88, of Clarksville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Vanderbilt Medical Center surrounded by family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Hilldale Baptist Church with Dr. Nick Pitts, Dr. Larry Robertson, and Minister Cindy Pitts officiating. Burial will be Monday, June 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
Joe's family will receive friends Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson funeral home, and again on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
Joe entered into this life on July 13, 1929, son of the late Ernest and Eva Davis Pitts. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a Korean War Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. Joe was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Horace Pitts; sisters, Ruby Lee and Louise Davis; son-in-law, Roger Atkins.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Alice Marshall Pitts; son, State Rep. Joe Pitts, Jr. and wife Cindy; daughter, Joy Atkins; grandchildren, Amy Atkins, Nick Pitts, Ryan (Kelly) Pitts, Joe (Bonnie) Crass, Jostin (Rebecca) Crass, and Jacob (Rebekah) Crass, ten great-grandchildren, brother, Raymond Pitts, and sister, Christine Dupont.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Freed Sunday School class.
