John Robert Underwood

John Robert “Rabbitt” Underwood, a dedicated family man and retired TRANE employee, passed away on February 17, 2024. His life was a testament to hard work, love, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones.

Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Bro. David Mackens officiating. Burial will be at Baggett’s chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, February 19^th, and again from 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 20, until the hour of service at McReynolds-Nave & Larson.

Born on June 19, 1945, to the late Hugh and Ruby Underwood,  John led a fulfilling life surrounded by his beloved family and friends. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife Nancy Walker Underwood, with whom he had shared over 56 beautiful years and son Robert Wayne Underwood.

John will be deeply missed by his children: David Owen Underwood, James "Tommy" Underwood (Darlene), Mary "Dena" Flynn (Mike), and Hayley Ray Underwood. He was a source of wisdom and strength to his grandchildren: Tyler Blake Underwood, Taylor Brooke Underwood, Robert Blaze Underwood Keith Underwood, Karri Underwood, Shena (Justin) Sabo, Michael (Holly) Flynn; as well as his great-grandchildren: Hadley Underwood, Corlen Underwood, Chance Underwood, Alesia Pride, Nevaeh Pride, Elly Sabo, J.T. Sabo, Avalon Flynn.

John's legacy will live on through the memories he created with each and every member of his family and his church congregation at Hopewell Baptist Church. He enjoyed tending to his family farm in Cunnigham, his kindness, sense of humor, and love for life will forever be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Underwood, Robert Blaze Underwood, Larry Hogue, Tommy Underwood, Keith Underwood and Michael Ussery.
