DAVENPORT, John Edward, 85, of Clarksville, TN passed away, October 23, 2011.
A graveside funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tom Dowdy officiating. Burial will be with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 noon on Wednesday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Louise Hooper Davenport; sisters, Mildred Adams, Dorothy Seay; brothers, Clarence Davenport, Robert "Pete" Davenport Jr..
Mr. Davenport is survived by his wife, Polly Weems Davenport; daughter, Joyce Davenport Tanley (Rick); son, William Carl Davenport (Vicki).
He owned and operated "John's Dry Cleaners and Alterations" on Strawberry Alley (formerly Legion Street). It is still a fixture there, after more than 35 years, with many friends and customers who still remember and miss him when he retired. He was a member of the Better Business Bureau, a 50 year member of Mason Lodge #761, Disabled Veterans and VFW. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Veterans Service Organization at 350 Pageant Lane, Clarksville, TN 37040.
Pallbearers will be Billy Sykes, Bob Adams, Josh Baggett, Edward Baggett, Locke Weems and Dwight Dickson.
