Joe McClure

Joe Daugherty McClure, age 64 of Clarksville, TN, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at his home. Mr. McClure was born March 12, 1950 in Somerset, KY. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Charles (Chuck) and Mary Jane McClure.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, May 5, 2014 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and from 11 AM until the hour of service on Tuesday at First Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Roger Freeman and Wade Borne officiating. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery in Big Rock, TN.

Mr. McClure was a graduate of Red Bank High School and Hiwassee College in southeastern TN. He also held a B.A. in English and a master's in Library Science from the University of Tennessee. He obtained his law degree in 1987 from Nashville School of Law. He was a former member of the TN Library Association, and the Montgomery County and Tennessee State Bar Associations. He began his career as a school librarian, and worked in university libraries at Middle Tennessee State University and Tennessee State University. He later opened the library for the federal Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and served as the federal courts' librarian for 28 years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Clarksville, TN and enjoyed singing in the choir for more than 20 years. He was an avid genealogical researcher, and did extensive research on his mother's extended family in Eastern Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Knight McClure of Clarksville, and children Rebecca Jane McClure and William Charles McClure II of Nashville. He is also survived by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Edmund Bolt of Knoxville, TN and Libby and Ken Guthrie of Brentwood, CA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Smith Cemetery maintenance fund at 270 Big Rock Rd., Big Rock, TN 37023.
