Jim Amos

James D. Amos, affectionately known as “Jim” age 88, of Clarksville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023.

Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2023 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Jim entered this life on April 30, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late James and Zelah Hersinger Amos. He was the epitome of a lifelong businessman, who always held true to his belief in growing and mentoring others. Jim first came to Clarksville in 1960, as a new Belmont University graduate and began his professional career at Trane Company. He ended that chapter of his life as the national purchasing manager. After Trane company, Jim began his true calling as an entrepreneur and as a business mentor to all. He opened numerous laundromats and car washes in Clarksville. He developed, built and managed commercial and residential real estate ventures across the area, to include Clarksville Business Park. During this time , he was also an organizing director of the newly founded Legends Bank. He was the chairman of the organizing and building committees. He continued with many more business endeavors well into his eighties, leaving his legacy and handprints throughout the community for future generations. Jim was a lifelong Christian and member of First Baptist Church. He felt called to provide service for his church though his various roles of leadership. Not only did he serve his church family, but he also lived by the motto, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” He was instrumental in the planning, development and building of Clarksville Salvation Army complex. He was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America and the Shriners International. He often helped those in need without wanting or receiving recognition or acknowledgment. He always remembered his meager beginnings and felt driven to share the blessings of his life with those in need. Jim enjoyed boating, being with his family and friends, and working.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Amos and grandson, Jack Amos.

Jim leaves behind two sons, James L (Theresa) Amos, Timmy (Jamie) Amos; two stepchildren, Rick (Jenny) Roberts, Cindy (Jerry) Gannaway; seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Ray, Newt Ray, Bob Langford, Steve Langley, Bradley Martin and Bobby Amos.
