Jerald Ames Sweeney, Sr., age 80 of Clarksville, passed away on May 21, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Dr. Ted Denny officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday.
Jerald was born on April 6, 1936 in Bethany, MO, the son of the late Ora Amos Sweeney and Elizabeth Marie Mooney. He retired as Sergeant First Class with over 20 years of service from the U.S. Army, and proudly served his country during Vietnam and the Korean War. Jerald was a Lifetime Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4895, post 11160 where he was Post Quarter Master for over 10 years. He was also a Lifetime Member of both, Western KY/TN Chapter 101st Airborne Division and American Legion Post 233. He volunteered as a van driver for the VA and served for several years on ABC Board for Montgomery County.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Faye Boyer Sweeney.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Gerth Sweeney; sons, Jerald A. Sweeney, Jr. and Ronald Sweeney; daughters, Angela Sweeney and husband, William “Mel” Menger and Penny Brainard and husband, David; grandchildren, Jerald A. Sweeney, III, Marsha Covert, Kyle Dauw, Aron and Andrew Sweeney, Jordan, D.J., Brent, Cole, Bradley, and Bethany Brainard, Dylan, Silas, and Adam Rutherford; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jewell Pollock, Rita Rodgers, and Janet Porter; companion, Cindy Browning.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
