Jennie Ruth McElroy, 93, passed away February 2, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Bradenton, FL.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 10 from 11am-12pm with Funeral Services immediately following at Excell Baptist Church in Clarksville. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Erin, Tennessee.
Jennie Ruth McElroy was born November 28, 1924 in Granite City Illinois, the daughter of Herman and Blanch Adams, later residing in Scott’s Chapel, Stewart County, Tennessee. She married Leonard Burton McElroy of Erin, Tennessee on April 4, 1941.
Jennie is survived by siblings: Bette Adams Morrow, Lee Adams and Virgil Parrott (nephew raised as a sibling), her loving children: Donnie (Paula) McElroy, Clarksville, TN, Kenneth (Barbara) McElroy, Normal, IL and Karen McElroy, Bradenton FL; grandchildren: Brian McElroy, Angela McElroy Beal-Peacock, Sarah McElroy Smith-Prokosch, Matthew McElroy, Kimberly McElroy, Pamela McElroy Bonanno, Benjamin Burr, Nicole Mitchell Hartley, Alexis Taylor Taylor, Jordan Lang and 15 great-grandchildren. Jennie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings: Christine Adams Clemens, Sadie Adams Parrott, Georgia Adams Parker, Evie Adams Wooten, Charles Adams, Gladys Adams Crump, Maxine Adams Duncan and Gordon Adams, along with grandsons: Samuel McElroy and Kevin McElroy.
Jennie will be remembered most for the 70-year fairytale marriage she shared with her husband, Leonard, and her love of golf. Jennie and Leonard traveled the world over several times and shared that love of golf; even playing in many couples tournaments together. Jennie won many golf tournaments and was quick to let everyone know she had 3 hole-in-ones, but Leonard had none. She loved to garden, play scrabble and they had many nights playing cards with friends Jennie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
