Jeffery Robert Carey, 51, Clarksville, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Faith Outreach Church with David Wesner officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville, Kentucky, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson. Wednesday 10 a.m. until the hour of service at Faith Outreach Church, where he was a member.
Jeff was born May 19, 1960 in Rockland, Maine, son of Henry R. and Joyce Blakney Carey. Jeff was a 1978 graduate of Georges Valley High School in Thomaston, Maine, where he played soccer under Coach Sam Pendelton, who he revered as a mentor. After one year of college, he joined the U.S. Army in 1979 and served over 23 years before retiring as a 1st Sgt. of the 326th Engineering Battalion. After retirement Jeff worked for the Stanley Corp. at the EOC at Fort Campbell. He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, and his uncles, Louis and Albert Carey, Joe Blakney, and Joe Leclerc.
Survivors include his father, Henry and step-mother, Lucy Carey of Maine. The mother of Jeff's children, Katherine Sullivan. The children, Lindsay Carey, Jeremy Carey, Jacqueline Carey, and Rachel Carey, a granddaughter, Kylynne Kusick, all of Clarksville. His brother, Michael (Katherine) Carey of Virginia, sisters, Sandra (Daniel) Thompson of Maine, Patty Carey and partner Margaret Gandy of Florida, Terry (James) Hunt of Maine, Stacy (John) Burch of Maine. The grandparents of his children, John and Georgina Sullivan. The uncles Robert (Theresa) Carey, Dexter Carey, and John (Joanne) Carey, aunts, Alice Leclerc, Maryjane Carey, Joli (Charles) Mikutus, and Erma Blakney. The step brothers Bruce Wiles, Scott (Mary Ann) Wiles, step sister, Alison (Thomas) Hamlin, and many nieces and nephews.
