Jay Rittenhouse, a man whose life was filled with honor and bravery passed away on March 7, 2024 at the age of 87.
Celebration of Life will be held held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Rev. Pat VanDyke officiating. Burial and Military Honors will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
He was born on September 1, 1936, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the late Jacob Ponce Rittenhouse and Catherine Hiltz. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and a retired Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army. Jay's dedication and service to his country were commendable, earning him several prestigious recognitions including the Bronze Star Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal and many more. His courage and selflessness during his military tenure served as an inspiration to many. After his retirement from the US Army, he went on to have a successful career with both Coca-Cola and AAFES of Ft. Campbell. He retired from both companies and never shied away from hard work.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Jay “Sonny” Rittenhouse, Jr.
He is survived by his devoted wife of an incredible 70 years, Nancy Lee Weitzel Rittenhouse. Jay leaves behind his daughters, Sandra Rittenhouse, Deanna Lookingbill (Dave), and Isabel Peters (Dale); grandchildren Andrew Slesinski, Eric Harris, Zachary Ryan Watson, Melissa Ann Dawn Wilson, and Austin Jacob Lookingbill. Additionally, Jay is survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Jay Rittenhouse will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Clarksville, TN.
