James Irvin Wyatt Sr., 85, Clarksville, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Spring Meadows Health Care Center.
A celebration of his life with full military honors will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, July 26, 2015 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with Dr. Roger Freeman officiating.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until the hour of service Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Wyatt was born February 1, 1930 in Montgomery County, TN and was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Pauline Wooten Wyatt; brothers, Guyton Wyatt, Richard Wyatt and Billy Wyatt.
Lieutenant Colonel Wyatt served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1968. He served in Korea, Vietnam, and Austria and was stationed in Alaska. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Air Medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and Commendation Medal. In Vietnam he piloted the Huey helicopter in 160 combat assaults supporting the 101st and Marine units "carrying them in and bringing them out". His aircraft was hit several times but never went down. He retired to Clarksville, TN. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clarksville and enjoyed boating.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth Baggett Wyatt; children, James I. Wyatt Jr. and wife Melba, Donna Litton and husband, Jay, Robb W. Wyatt and wife Helon; brothers, Bobby Wyatt, Freddy Wyatt; grandchildren, Lucas Wyatt, Steven Litton and wife, Lauren, Hannah Wyatt Hudson and husband, Earle, David Litton, Julie Litton, Wesley Wyatt, Anna Wyatt; great-grandson, Benjamin Litton; and uncle, ML Wooten.
