James P. Lindsay, 76, Clarksville, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Gateway Medical Center.
A celebration of his life will be held 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with Dr. Felts Dent officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m., Friday at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY with full military honors.
Visitation will be 3 p.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lindsay was born August 31, 1935 in Jacksboro, TN and was the son of the late Austin Otto and Amanda Ruth Spicer Lindsay.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired with 23 years of service. He proudly served one tour in Vietnam. During his service, he received numerous awards such the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal Ribbon with a Bronze Oak Leaf, Army Commendation Medal Ribbon with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf cluster and Vietnam Service Medal Ribbon with 3 clusters.
Aside from serving in the 101st Airborne Division, he also served in the 36th Artillery (1967), 8th Artillery (1965), 92nd Field Artillery (1972), 4th Field Artillery (1969), and the 320th Field Artillery.
After his retirement from the Army, he was employed in field construction with Coy Baggett Jr. and then later as manager at Robertson and Penn Laundry Ft. Campbell, Ky for over 15 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Hella Lindsay, son, Edmund Schwandner and daughters, Kathrine Joy of Ft. Worth TX and Darlene Lindsay Garner of Clarksville, TN, grandchildren Chad, Jason, Kaleigh, Cory and Austin, and great-grandchildren, Kevin, Jonathan, Kamryn and Blake.
