James Benton Evans, age 88, Clarksville, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2017 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with Dr. Felts Dent and Dr. John David Laida officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home.
He was born February 8, 1928 in Johnsonville, TN and was preceded in death by his mother, Norene Brigham Wickham Reynolds; father, Benton Evans; and his first wife, Betty Biter Evans.
Mr. Evans was a U.S. Navy Veteran and had served with the Construction Batallion "Seabees" during World War II. Also, he was a member of the church family at First Baptist Church, Clarksville, a Mason (Lodge #89), and a Shriner. After 45 years, James retired from Austin Peay State University where he was a Maintenance Superintendent.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Johnson Evans; daughter, Jeanne (Thaxton) Smith; granddaughter, Jennifer (Corey) Graves; great grandchildren, Tyler Wiggins, Connor Graves, Colton Graves; half brother, Robert Reynolds; half sister, Peggy Reynolds; and the Biter family.
Pallbearers will be Corey Graves, Pete Reed, Ken Guessetto, David Stumbaugh, Mike Stinnet and Frank Biter.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Clarksville.
