Hubert Griffey

Hubert E. Griffey, age 89 of Clarksville, passed away at his home on Monday, January 26, 2015.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Revs. Larry Riley, Felts Dent, and John Laida officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 12 noon until the hour of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Hubert was born on February 12, 1926 in Metcalf, KY, the son of the late Lacy H. Griffey and Nannie Shirley Griffey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Burkhart and brothers, Garner R. Griffey and John W. Griffey.
Mr. Griffey grew up on a farm in Stewart County, now Fort Campbell Army Base. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and returned home to enter the real estate business in 1952. He was active in sales, appraisals, and residential development until his retirement in January 1992. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon at age 26 and was Deacon Emeritus at the time of his death, and taught Sunday School at First Baptist for approximately 55 years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irene Morrison Griffey; sons, Mike (Lynn) Griffey and Steve (Jennifer) Griffey; brother, Wallace Griffey; sister, Eleanor Matthews; grandchildren, Erin Hester, Laura Hudson, Garrett Griffey, Allison Griffey, and Jared Griffey; great-grandchildren, Hayden Hester, Ethan Hester, Wells Woodard, and Lilly Hudson. Special thanks to care giver Janet Stuart.
Pallbearers will be his fishing buddies and family, Lonnie Elrod, Jack Brandon, Larry Mumford, Roger Crose, Bryce Hester, Steve Hudson, Jared Griffey, and Garrett Griffey. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Baraca Class, Beachhaven neighbors, former fishing buddies, and Ralph Conklin, Bobby Bowers, Earl Roark, and Reber Kennedy.
