Hershel Dale Coffell, 72, formerly of Erin, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 at American House Senior Living in Hendersonville.
Hershel was born on March 20, 1950 to James Mack and Tommie Laverne (Wells) Coffell of Erin. He is preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Linda Coffell. He is survived by two sisters, Mitzi Butler (Alfred) and Dorothy Coffell, one nephew, Dustin Whittin (Lindsay), one niece, Stephanie Whittin, and two great nieces, Scotlyn Whittin and Spencer Whittin.
Hershel attended Arlington School and was a 1968 graduate of Houston County High School. He attended Dickson Vocational Tech and went on to work at Southern Gage in Erin where he retired after 35 years. He enjoyed piloting, driving stock cars, riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Hershel was an avid supporter of Vanderbilt sports and enjoyed playing chess. He was a Christian and a member of Shepherd's Chapel Church.
Hershel was a gentle, caring soul who would help anyone in need. He was considerate and kind, always putting others before himself.
Services for Hershel will be held at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home in Erin at 2:00 pm on January 6th, 2023 with his brother-in-law, Reverend Alfred Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Hamm Cemetery.
Pallbearers include: Phillip Baggett, Dwayne Cherry, Randy Gann, Dwayne Perrigo, Mike Perrigo, and Gerald Rye.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Wilson Coffelt, Darrell Hamilton, Rudy Smith, Percy Williams, and Employees of Southern Gage, Co.
