Herschel T. Harris, age 93 of Clarksville, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Tennessee Veterans Home in Murfreesboro.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Revs. Jamie Mandrell and Byron Dumas officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday at the church.
Herschel was born on March 17, 1923 in Southside, TN, and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Emmett and Elizabeth Pearl Trotter Harris; wife, Martha Elizabeth Frech Harris. He was an electrician who retired from TVA as a crane operator; a U.S. Navy Seabee’s Veteran and served during WWII in the South Pacific; he was an extra in the movie “The Fighting Seabee’s” with John Wayne; a lifelong member with IBEW; was known for his quail hunting expertise, storytelling and his love for horses; and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, Robert Emmett (Dorothy) Harris; daughter, Faye Harris (Raymond) Ward; grandsons, Keith (Pat) Ward, Kevin Ward, and Kurt Ward; granddaughters, Amy Ward (Mitchell) Strange, and Megan Harris; one great-grandchild, Taylor Strange.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Comfort Keepers and Tennessee Veterans Home in Murfreesboro.
