Herbert Dickson (Dickie) Roake, Jr., age 84 of Clarksville, went to be with Jesus and his daughter, Becky, on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Faith Building, at Madison and Fifth Streets with Dr. Ronny Raines and Rev. Pat Van Dyke officiating. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021, at McReynolds Nave & Larson; and at 9:30a.m. Friday before the service.
Dickie was born December 18, 1936 in Clarksville, TN to the late Herbert Dickson and Linnie Mayzelle Pyland Roake. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1955. His first job was popping corn at the Capitol Theater, he then worked at H.G. Hill Grocery. He was a boot pattern designer at Acme Boot Company for 26 years and a groundskeeper at Austin Peay State University for 20 years. After retiring he was caretaker of the Kiwanis Lodge for five years.
He was a 77-year Diabetic Survivor. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, the outdoors, singing in the First Baptist Church Adult Choir and playing softball. He was a skilled pitcher for the First Baptist Church 16-inch soft ball team and pitched many no-hit games. He enjoyed working with his fruit trees and canning peaches and cucumber pickles. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Downtown Kiwanis Club, the Clarksville Masons Lodge #89, and was a Scoutmaster with Troop 525 for 20 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Roake Lovett, and sister, Faye Roake Drury.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Juliette Varela Roake; son, Anthony (Charlene) Roake; and daughter, Elaine (Joe) Roake-Geist. Grandchildren: Andrew Roake, John Lovett and Kaylee Lovett (Cameron) Clark. Honorary grandson Thor Vincent Palmer and several honorary daughters and granddaughters.
