Henry Alva Major, 80, of Southside, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2012 at Gateway Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Rev. John Black officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Henry was born June 4, 1932 in Montgomery Co., Tennessee, son of Martin C. Major and Elsie Virginia Holt Major. Following graduation from Clarksville High School's Class of 1950, Henry served his country with the US Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Later, Henry went on to graduate from APSU in 1962 which led to a career in Banking that spanned many years with First National and First Union Banks. Henry was a member of the Clarksville Jaycees and attended Spring Creek Baptist Church.
Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Esther Gilstrap Major and his daughters, Rosemary Major, Sherry Reese, and Angela Shipley.
Survivors include his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Mike Wilkins of Southside and Diane and Donnie Golden of Clarksville; his brother, Robert Major of Joelton; and eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
