Griffie D. Black passed away Sunday at Grace Healthcare due to complications from an automobile accident on 12-12-11.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Black Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Black was a lifelong resident of TN, the only child of the late Jeff and Vergie Underwood Black of Cunningham. Mr Black joined the Army in 1952 and served a tour in England. After returning home he worked at B.F Goodrich. Later he met and married Julia Allsbrooks. They have a son Steve. After the plant closed Griffie bought the feed mill in Houston County and later relocated it to Hwy 149 where he spent many happy years in business and with his cattle. He proudly sponsored the 4H Club. Griffie was proud that the Houston County High School was built on the property that he previously owned.
In 1997 he married Jeannine Darnell. After retiring they moved to Clarksville. He kept busy with his vegetable garden and beautiful roses. He was a member of the Clarksville Moose lodge. He and Jeannine traveled quite often and he revelled in telling the highlights of those trips.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife Jeannine Black. Also, his son, Steve and wife Kathy Black; granddaughters, Julie Black and Tonya Black; grandson Jeremy Black; and great grandchildren, Hunter, Faith, Emma and Kyle.
