Glenn Abernathy

July 24, 1925 — October 28, 2013

Alfred Glenn Abernathy, age 88, of Clarksville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 28, 2013 while at Skyline Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Justin Collett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The Abernathy family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until the hour of service Friday at Salem United Methodist Church.
Glenn entered this life on July 24, 1925 in Montgomery County, son to John (Stone) and Ida Thompson Abernathy. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and the Tennessee National Guard and was retired from the Civil Service at Fort Campbell. Glenn was also a licensed electrical engineer and owned and operated Abernathy Engineering. He was a devoted member of the church family at Salem United Methodist Church and also belonged to the United Methodist Men. Glenn had a servant's heart, having devoted more than 30 years to local and foreign Missions, drawing plans for many churches and family life buildings, and directing team mission construction projects.
He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 65 years, June Edmondson Abernathy of Clarksville; his son, Mike Abernathy and his wife Sherry of Clarksville; his daughter, Julie Nicholson of Clarksville. He was the loving grandfather of Sonya Snow, Angelyn Nicholson, Amy Miller, Adam Nicholson, and Keegan Riley, and nine great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Henry Penna, Bobby Abernathy, Tommy Bagwell, Mike Bryant, Brad Morris, Freddy Matthews, Nailon Puckett, and Phillip Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be John Davidson, Austin Edmondson, Freddy Abernathy, Norris Allen, and Ted Johnson.
