Glenda entered this life on October 18, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Robert Earl Huggins "Buddy" and Ida Rose Matteson. She was a faithful member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Glenda knew she was going to Heaven and set an example of how to live a Godly life every day. Glenda was involved with Vacation Bible School and was a teacher in the Awanas Program. First Corinthians 13:4-5. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Those that knew Glenda knew she lived her life practicing these words from day to day. She was loving, compassionate, giving and forgiving. Of the many qualities she taught her children and grandchildren throughout her life one specifically held dear to her heart was that of how to love unconditionally. Her outer beauty was matched by her inner beauty and light that consistently drew people to her. Glenda was the best wife, mother, sister, grandma, granny, grangran, aunt, and friend that anyone could ever ask for. If you asked someone who her favorite was, they would answer, "I am". That was her specialty, making everyone feel so special and as if they were her favorite. Glenda made her focus on encouraging people and making them feel special. People would gravitate to the light that shined from within her, and it was contagious. Glenda was sociable and friendly, even to strangers. She loved to be in the company of others and talk, especially over coffee. Glenda was able to see the good in people regardless of their situation and sought to help and mentor in any way she could. She found enjoyment in church, nature, drinking coffee on the back porch while watching hummingbirds, painting rocks, walking by the creek hunting for special rocks with her grandbabies, and making her famous banana pudding and coconut cake. When she met her husband Donny, she truly met her prince charming. Together they devoted their time showering everyone with love, happiness, and joy. He was the perfect fit to the hole in her heart. Glenda's grandchildren also held such a special place in her heart. She would go to any extreme to make them happy, even if that meant getting a nose ring and a tattoo. Glenda's beautiful soul was encapsuled by love for God and her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eugene Long.
Survivors include her precious children, Nita Rose (James) Gilliam, Laura Ann (Josh) Wright, Shannon Faith (Cory) Gunter, Buddy (Whitney) Griffin, Melissa Dawn Griffin, Thea (LeGrande) Byrnes, and Andy (Teri) Long; sisters, Mary "Dumps" Matteson (Doc), Lenny Edwards (Donnie); brother, Wayne Harrison (Kim); grandchildren, Brian, Blane, Eva, Brittney, Devin, Caleb, Abby, Chase, Ava, Makayla, Nadalie, Presley, Jameson, Maggie, Drew, Reed, Lilli Grace, Erikk, Nick, Debbie, Morgan, Aiden, and 9 great-grandchildren.
