Gladys P. Shelley, 88, Clarksville, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Walking Horse Meadows. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Florida Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Rockledge, FL. with Reverend Robert Piercy of the Grace Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in beside her husband, Robert W. Pigg, at the Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL.. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home, Rockledge, FL. McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Gladys was born July 7, 1921, in Pageland, South Carolina. She met and married Robert W. Pigg, a career military man in 1941. Subsequently, she traveled widely, living in France and Japan, as well numerous states. After her husband retired in 1963, they settled on Merritt Island, Florida. She had varied interests, including assisting physically challenged children, flower arrangements, and area beautification through planting trees, shrubs and flowers along highways. She was a longtime member of the Merritt Island Garden Club, serving as the president for years. The Grace United Methodist Church of Merritt Island also had a very special place in her life. Gladys was very active in many aspects of the church. Following her husband' death in 1989, Gladys met and married Charles R. Shelley in 1997. They spent many years thereafter on Merritt Island involved with the Grace Methodist Church. Upon "Bob"Shelley' death in 2007, Gladys moved to Clarksville, TN near her son, Charles Andrew Pigg. Her two husbands and two sisters, Verla Yalden and Dorothy Kolley, preceded Gladys in death. Survivors include a sister, Atha Gibson, N.C., three sons, Robert W. Pigg, Jr. (Virginia) GA, Charles A. Pigg (Sandra) TN, and Thomas W. Pigg, (Debra) VA. six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
