George Powell

George Franklin Powell passed away Thursday March 14, 2013 at his residence. A celebration of his life will be 2pm Sunday at Nave Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from, 10am until service time Sunday at the funeral home. George was born April 19, 1959 in Highland Park, MI. son of Retus (Bingo) Powell and Martha Ann Holland Powell of McKinnon; Tn. He married Suzanne Griffin Powell on July 17, 1993 on a houseboat on Kentucky Lake. She survives. He is also survived by 1 sister Jane Archer, and 2 brothers Leroy (Lyn) Powell and Ron (Sandy) Powell, loving in-laws Freeman & Patricia Griffin of Mi. two stepchildren Christie (Mike) Ray and Tony Holland, 3 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Frank and Bessie Powell of Stewart, TN. and his maternal grandparents Edward and Lena Holland of Eva, TN. George worked in the restaurant business most of his life and the last 21 years as a partner with his parents at Southernair Motel & Restaurant in McKinnon,Tn. He loved his motorcycles, cooking for his family and friends, and his faithful companions “Hero” and “Taz” He was proud to be honored as the Grand Marshall of the Irish Celebration in 2003 and as Lord High Mayor on 2012, the 50th year of the Irish Celebration in Erin, TN.
