Mrs. Lowry was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, one of four children and the only daughter of Professor and Mrs. Albert E. Broene. Affectionately known to family and friends alike as "Sis", Mrs. Lowry reflected often on her wonderful childhood memories. During World War II, she enrolled and graduated from nursing school, serving her country as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army. While in the service and stationed in Texas, she met and married George Lowry, originally from Stewart County, TN. They built their lives together in Clarksville, raising two daughters and two sons. Mrs. Lowry continued with her nursing career, serving nearly 20 years as a registered nurse on "Four East" at Clarksville Memorial Hospital. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she reflected God's love with her kind, generous and joyful spirit. Mrs. Lowry always made time for her children. She displayed enthusiasm for their activities and unconditional love that cheered and conforted them through all life's triumphs and tragedies. Growing up in a family of athletes and sports fans, she engaged in many spirited discussions about basketball and baseball, particularly the Atlanta Braves, Tennessee Titans, U.T. Vols, and Austin Peay Governors. The availability of sports on cable television was a luxury she never tired of. Although her health prevented her from leaving home in recent years, she was a faithful member of Hilldale United Methodist Church. Her Christian witness was in her daily walk with family, friends and strangers, and the joy she brought to all occasions. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Bee Lowry, Sr.; her parents, Albert and Anna Broene; brothers, Evy, Ladd and Gene. She is survived by her children, George Bee Lowry Jr., Marks, MS, Mary Anne Lowry Powers (Larry), Cumberland City, TN, Patricia Lowry Jones, Clarksville, TN, Robert Thomas Lowry (Andrea), Mobile, AL, grandchildren, Matthew Powers, Justin Jones, Stuart Lowry, Katherine Lowry Moore, Brooke LaForce, Lindsay LaForce and Abigail Lowry; great-grandchildren, Gage and Breyer Powers, Tyler Jones and Alex Moore; sisters-in-law, Carol Broene and Jeanne Broene, both of Grand Rapids, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
