Gabriel Segovia

March 23, 1970 — March 23, 2015

Gabriel R. Segovia, 45, entered his eternal life, Monday, March 23, 2015.
A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at First Baptist Church, 435 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN with Rev. Ken Edwards, Dr. Ted Denny and Dr. Brian McKinney officiating.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the church.
Gabe was born March 23, 1970 in Fort Campbell, KY and was the son of Patrick and Uta Rasmus Segovia. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick Segovia and Jimmy Segovia.
Other than his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Karen Woods, Caroline Segovia and husband Jeff Hy, Jennifer Segovia; niece, Keira Hy; special friend and caregiver, Janis O. Mize; K-9 companions, Zapata and Che Guevara.
He was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church, former Clarksville City Councilman, former Clarksville Vice Mayor, Leadership Clarksville Alumnist, and The Tennessean 40 under 40 class of 2003, 1988 Northwest High School Graduate and 1996 Austin Peay State University Graduate.
With a love and knowledge of baseball fostered at Stokes Little League Fields Gabe is no stranger to the diamond. During high school Gabe was a solid fixture at third base for the Northwest Vikings. A great glove, an equally heavy bat and outstanding speed earned Gabe a spot on the All-Area Baseball Team in 1987. The same year he was named the Vikings MVP. However, no description of Gabe’s admiration for the game is complete without mentioning his beloved New York Yankees. Or, his recent new BFF Don Mattingly.
After graduating Austin Peay State University, Gabe took an SRO position with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Gabe served 10 years as a Student Resource Officer, nine of which were spent at both Northeast Middle and High School.
Gabe was a fighter. In July of 2011, he was diagnosed with brain cancer. A type of cancer most people do not survive 1-3 years. Gabe beat it. He beat it with a positive attitude and a profound faith in God. Unfortunately, the cancer had came back. Gabe double downed on faith and he beat cancer for a second time. Then last September Gabe received the most devastating news. His cancer had returned. Once again, he double downed on faith. However, this time he had a message to share.
That message is one of hope. Gabe asked God to give him the opportunity to share his message with any group of people who would listen. So, for the last six months he has shared his story with churches, student organizations, youth groups, prisoners and the Northeast High School baseball team.
Pallbearers will be Britt McBryar, Jimmy McCall, Mayor Don Trotter, Dwight Luton, Zachary Williams, David Jackson, Richard Moler, Ken Wyks, Lynn Fryer, Jamey Kindrick, Steve Delle, Caleb Slaughter. Honorary pallbearers will be Northeast High School Baseball Team, Northwest Alumni Baseball Team and Sigma Chi Fraternity Brothers.
Memorials may be made to Clarksville Montgomery Humane Society, 940 Tennessee Avenue, Clarksville, TN 37040 or Room In The Inn, 705 Drexel Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
