Evelyn Bryant Terrell, 99, went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2018, peacefully at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Clarksville, TN on March 29th, 1919, to William Larry and Artie Mai Wilson Bryant. She was a charter member of Hilldale Baptist Church founded in 1947. At the age of 12, Evelyn accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior on Easter morning in 1931. In her book “Life on Robb Avenue and Beyond” she wrote that she wanted to “live as Jesus lived, love as Jesus loved and glorify my Lord and King." She counted it as one of her greatest joys to visit the Holy Land and walk the land where Jesus walked.
Her greatest passion was volunteering her time & energy to her church. In 1992, the Childrens Education Building was dedicated in her honor. She taught Childrens Sunday School for 54 years. She truly felt that teaching was her calling. She loved and prayed for each child. She was actively involved in her church on many levels. One she especially enjoyed was the Nursing Home Ministry. She was an avid reader and the author of two books: “Life on Robb Avenue and Beyond” and “Through the Years” which chronicled the history of Hilldale Baptist Church.
Also active in her community, she served as president of many organizations including Belmont Home Demonstration Club, Clarksville Garden Club, Director of Associational Women’s Missionary Union, and as PTA President at Moore, Roosevelt and Clarksville High School’s, Montgomery County PTA Council and the Rebekah Lodge.
Evelyn married Norris Hughes Terrell on February 27, 1938, in Franklin, KY. Her husband preceded her in death in 2002. She is survived by 3 children: Edmund (Joyce) Terrell, Linda Terrell (Roger) McCoy, Artie Terrell (Rod) Grassman; 5 grandchildren: Richard Shannon McCoy, Brian Kerry (Tammy) McCoy, Cathleen Terrell McCoy; Sally Terrell (Steve) Perkins, David H. (Mandy) Terrell and 8 great-grandchildren.
