Mrs. Evelyn Louise Joyner Cook, of Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee, on her 85th birthday, went home to be with the Lord, after her battle with multiple myeloma. Her last month was spent in Hospice Care at Sumner Regional Medical Center near the home of her only surviving daughter, Judy and Bruce Pennington of Gallatin, and grandchildren Bradley Pennington, Bethany Pennington, and Susanna and Steve Duncan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Thomas David Cook, their two young children, Janie Louise Cook and Harold Joyner Cook, and her sister Margaret Joyner Warren. She was born in Goodlettsville on February 15, 1923 to the late Logan B. and Linda Ketring Joyner. She leaves behind her brother William Robert Joyner of Goodlettsville, nieces Linda Coombs and Faye Clendenin of Goodlettsville, along with 43 other much loved nieces and nephews. She is survived also by devoted in-laws Georgia and Vincent Holley of Hendersonville, Gene Cook, Bettye and Virgil Mobley, and Jeannette Bigham of Michigan. Born in Sumner County, she attended Madison Creek Grammar School, Goodlettsville High School, and received a bachelor's degree in Home Econmics from George Peabody College. After graduating from college, she was hired as the Home Demonstration Agent for Houston County until marrying Thomas David Cook on June 12,1947. Always a devoted wife and mother, she went to work once more in 1962 when she was hired by the Houston County Board of Education as an interim principal of Tennessee Ridge Elementary School, then went on to teach Biology, Chemistry and Home Economics at Houston County High School until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Goodlettsville until she joined the Long Branch Methodist Church upon marriage where she remained a faithful member for 60 years. Prior to declining health, Evelyn was an active member of her church and community, showed hospitality in her home, and loved her family and friends with deep devotion. Even in her last months her sweet smile, words of appreciation, and kind, gentle spirit gave testimony of a life well lived. Funeral services will be held at Nave Funeral Home Chapel in Erin, TN with Sis. Beverly Dycus and Sis. Denise Settles officiating. Nephews will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation will be from 1pm until 7pm Saturday and from 12 noon until the time of service Sunday. With services on Sunday beginning at 2pm. Burial will follow at Cook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice which would honor Mrs. Cook's memory.
