Erwin “Pete” Sanford Greene, 92 of Cumberland Furnace, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at his residence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Greene Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday.
Pete was born on November 10, 1923 in Montgomery County, the son of the late Hayden Bradley Greene and Lillie Hamilton Greene. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Cora Imogene Stavely Greene; sons, Melvin Daniel Greene and Erwin Vincent Greene; brothers, Vernon Greene and Wendell Greene; sisters, Mildred Coleman Beatrice Blackwell and Laverda McCeary.
Pete served during WWII in Myithyina, Burma. He was retired from Acme Boot, a farmer, and a member of Gray’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his son, Edward S. (Tina Dachtler) Greene; daughters, Reba (Daniel) Burke, Nelda Kaye (Alan) Blackwell, Wanda (Richard) Thurmond, and Doris Ann (Joe) Griffy; sisters, Evelyn Davis and Grace Bearden Britt; grandchildren, Terry Greene, Greg Burke, Rickey Thurmond, Rachel Henry, Johnathan Greene, Rebecca Luffman, Joe Griffy, Zachary Greene, and Evan Greene; 10 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
