Ernest E. Carter passed away July 12, 2012, in Erin. He was 86.A celebration of his life will be 2pm Saturday at nave Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Suddeath officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 pm until 8pm Friday and from 10 am until service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Natalie; 2 children, Larry (Heidi) Carter of Nashville, and Helen (Marty) Moore of Houston County; a granddaughter, Ruth Page; and great-granddaughter, Katelynn Page of Woodville, AL, and a sister, Wilda Bean of Phoenix, AZ.
He was born July 4, 1926, in Montgomery County, OH, to Ernest Carter and Clara Mae Turner Carter. He was retired from the US Navy, serving in WW II, Korea, and Vietnam. During his Navy years, he was a gunner’s mate, worked with Wernher von Braun on the Polaris missile project, and was on a blockade ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After retirement, he lived in Grant, AL, for 40 years, before moving to Houston County in 2007 to be closer to his children. He was an avid gun enthusiast, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Erin church of Christ.
