Eleanor Williams, age 92 of Clarksville, TN passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2023, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Hobson Nicholson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Eleanor entered this life on May 23, 1931, to the late James and Lima Taylor Shepherd. She was appointed Montgomery County Historian in 1993. Eleanor attended local schools, and Austin Peay State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Clarksville. Eleanor has written extensively about the local history of her home area. She has also written several books, HOMES AND HAPPENINGS published in 1990, CABINS TO CASTLES published in 1992 and WORSHIP ALONG THE WARIOTO published in 1995. These books treat Montgomery County subjects as did an earlier work written with former Montgomery County historian, Ursula Beach entitled NINETEENTH CENTURY HERITAGE. She recently co-edited THE DIARY OF NANNIE HASKINS WILLIAMS with Minoa Uffelman, Ellen Kanervo, and Phyllis Smith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Williams; daughters, Gayle Moore and Donna Page; brother, Rev. James Shepherd.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Wade (Tonya) Williams, Jacob (Stacy) Williams, and James (Nicole) Page, and six great- grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Clarksville Find Us Faithful.
Pallbearers will be Wade Williams, Jacob Williams, Cole Williams, Cade Williams, James Page, and Mike Mulloy.
