Edith was born December 23, 1944, in Frankfort Germany to Elizabeth and Hans Theil. Edith was loved by many and known as the crazy old German lady. She was one to say whatever came to her mind without a second thought. She treated everyone she encountered as if they were her own. If you didn’t have a grandma, she’d be the closest thing to one. Being around her, you can’t get blindsided by her hard body demeanor because she’d give her last if it was necessary. Especially to her family whom she loved so much and even if you weren’t blood, she kept you close. We feel oh so blessed to have met the sweetest old lady who could go from 0 to 100 in seconds. Even on her last days her goal was always to somehow make life easier for her family. Whether it was giving her best effort to make a meal, helping do the dishes, or making you laugh. The laughing part came pretty easy because all she had to do was be herself. She could go on for hours talking. She loved to talk about any and everything, but most of all telling the stories of her past. Listening to her retell those days let us know that she really knew what it meant to live life to the fullest.
She would want everyone to live life the way they wanted, because at the end of the day it’s solely your decision. What a joyful person that has been lost but will live on forever in our hearts.
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, 1SG (Ret.) John Callahan.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Campbell, Claudia George (Jonathan George,Sr.), Nina Röder; son, Thomas Theile; stepfather, Hans-Bruno Thiele; biological father, Otto Hahn; brother, Hans-Peter Theile; grandchildren, Lawrence Campbell, Laylani Campbell, Laurencia Campbell, Jonathan George, Jr., Gavin Joseph George, Izabella Alysia George, Saski Röder, as well as numerous other grandchildren in Germany.
