Edgar “Ed” Franklin Patterson, age 66 of Clarksville, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015 at First Baptist Church Clarksville with Dr. Ted Denny officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and from 12 noon until the hour of service on Monday at the church.
Edgar was born on February 4, 1949 in Clarksville, the son of Wallace Patterson and Mary Mildred Mayberry Patterson.
He was a member of Rock Springs Freewill Baptist Church, a graduate of Charlotte High School where he was Vice President and President of the student body, an Alumnus Pre-Med Major Biology/Chemistry of Austin Peay State University where he was Associate and Chief Justice of the Student Tribunal. After college graduation, he was employed as a Media Center Director/Instructor at Montgomery Central High School, Composition Supervisor/ Photo Technician for Josten’s American Yearbook Company. He began his career with Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office in 1973 as a Juvenile Officer, Public Relations Officer, Criminal Investigator, Director Clarksville-Montgomery Vice Squad, and most recently until his retirement, was Chief Deputy Sheriff. He was an External Faculty Instructor at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy from 1976 until his passing. He was a Commissioner representing Tennessee Sheriffs and Law Enforcement for the Tennessee Sentencing Commission. Edgar was also a chairman for Tennessee Statistical Analysis Center and an instructor at the Law Enforcement Satellite Academy of Tennessee. In addition, he was the past president of the Clarksville Rotary Club. Edgar was a Board Member of Clarksville-Montgomery E-911 Board, Integrated Criminal Justice Portal Steering Committee, Tennessee DHS Fusion Committee Technical Group, and Tennessee Interoperable Wireless Communications Advisory Technical Sub-Committee. He is also the Communications Chairman for Northern Middle Tennessee Regional Homeland Security Committee Tennessee DHS District 7 and a Committee Member of the Region 39 National Public Safety Planning Advisory Committee.
Edgar is survived by his mother, Mary Mildred Mayberry Patterson; brother, Millard F. Patterson; aunt, Arlene Rogers; numerous cousins.
Active pallbearers will be the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Officers.
Honorary pallbearers will Larry Watson, George Watson, James Corlew Jr., Price Hopson, Bill Sites, and Jeff Perigo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
