Dawson Winfield Durrett Jr., M.D. died peacefully on April 1, 2023.
Dr. Durrett was born on May 13, 1931, in Clarksville, TN. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Fessey Durrett, father, Dawson Winfield Durrett, Sr, and sister, Virginia Durrett Senseney.
As a physician, his career included a surgical tenure at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, TN followed by 35 years of service at Clarksville Memorial Hospital. He then practiced outpatient surgery at Dover Medical Clinic. Dr. Durrett was a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons and a Diplomat of The American Board of Surgery.
His devotion for healing, and deep commitment to his faith, fellow man, and the natural world and all its creatures, was evidenced throughout his remarkable, yet humblest life. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Durrett, his children Shelton Durrett (Steve Meriwether), Mary Frances Durrett, Susan Durrett Nicholson (Clark), son by marriage, Jason Carlisle (Chelsea), and the mother of his children Shelly Jenkins Gray. Grandchildren are Laura Carr (lan), Dr. Dawson Nicholson and Samuel Nicholson, Vincent and Dane Carlisle, and Mattie; great-granddaughter, Veda Durrett Clouser.
Funeral service will held on Wednesday, April 5th, Madison Street United Methodist Church, at 10:00 followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, from 4:00 to 6:00, also at the church. His family will serve as pallbearers.
